RoboFest 2001

About The Event

 

"Playful Learning Environments for Science, Engineering, and Technology"

 

A new generation of computerized robot kits, such as Lego MindStorms�, HandyBoard by MIT, and Hand-Held Computer Robots is opening up new possibilities for playful learning. Lawrence Tech's RoboFest (Robot Festival) 2001 is an open contest in which the participants can show off their robots while learning problem solving techniques, mathematics, logic, creativity, team work, physics, electronics, mechanics, mechatronics, and computer programming & technology. 

The LTU RoboFest has some unique features. The dimension of the playing field is unknown. However, the game rules are simple, as is the construction of the playing fields. Robots must be fully autonomous, with no radio controls. Games are designed to use feedback loop controls and adaptive learning techniques, if possible. Any sensors, motors, and software environments / programming languages may be used.  Details are as follows: 

When: Saturday, April 28 from 11:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Robot Categories

Lego Mindstorms/RCX (5 through 12 grade)

MIT Handy Board  or other autonomous robots (9 grade and up)

Who can participate?  

A team consists of a coach and 1 - 5 students. 

The team can be from school, home school, civic organization, neighborhood, or community, etc. 

The coach can be a teacher, parent, college student, or organization leader, etc. 

The coach must have an email address.

A coach can enter more than one team. 

Teams are encouraged to find sponsors.
