(1) Robofest 2008 Warm-up Competition Video

Based on warm-up results, some Robofest 2008 rules have been updated. New versions are available on the web at www.robofest.net

 

(2) Qualifying Results so far

Robofest is now in full swing. As of March 24, seven qualifying competitions were completed so far

(3)� Wanted: Volunteers

We are in need of volunteers for many competition sites across the nation. If you are interested in helping with Robofest qualifiers and the World Robofest Championship, please go to Robofest volunteer registration site at http://admin.robofest.org

 

(4) Robofest 2008 Posters Available

Official Robofest 2008 posters are available. If you need copies of the 26� x 33.5� poster, please send us your mailing address. We will send them for free by mail.

(6)� IEEE SEM conference

IEEE Southeastern Michigan Section (SEM) spring conference will be held on April 2, 2008 at U of M Dearborn. There will be two presentations organized by the Robotics chapter.

- �Hardware Implementation of Localization and Mapping� �by Justin Tesmer

- �Robotic Simultaneous Localization and Mapping� �by Edzko Smid, Ph.D.

Keynote address by Gary Beach will be �Where Will America Find the Next Generation of Innovators�

IEEE Region 4 serves Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers members in all or parts of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin in the USA and the Windsor Area in Canada. The IEEE/SEM includes nine counties in southeast Michigan, and Essex county in Ontario, Canada. IEEE/SEM has grown from 2,200 members in 1963 to nearly 4,000 members today and has student branches at 10 universities in the region. The section has twelve chapters which represent 15 IEEE technical societies. IEEE SEM and Region 4 is a Robofest 2008 Silver sponsor.

(7)� Robofest Sumo Summer Camps in Michigan

Robot Sumo is a fun competition to learn various science, engineering, math, and technology topics. This introductory level summer camp at Lawrence Technological University is only for 5th ~ 9th grade beginners using Lego NXT robots.

       Two identical sessions: June 18-19 and June 23�24, 9am ~ 3pm

       Registration fee: $60 (lunch not included)

(8)  Robofest Coordinator Update

We welcome a new Robofest assistant coordinator, Susan Latos, who has been a RoboParade coach for two years. She will be responsible for coordinating volunteers and other duties.
