Robofest Newsletter, 5-9-03 ================================================== Contents (1) Robofest 2003 summary (2) Announcing Robofest 2003 National Champions (3) Robofest 2003 – LTU, Videotape Request (4) Robofest 2004 Plan ================================================== (1) Robofest 2003 summary Robofest 2003 was held in three different locations: Lawrence Tech - Southfield Michigan, The Dexter-Elmhurst Family and Community Center in Detroit, and Hollis/Brookline High School - Hollis, New Hampshire. - Total number of teams registered: 101 - Total number of teams actually competed: 82 - Total number of students awarded the certificate of achievement: 305 The complete results including award winner and all the scores of the three sites can be found at http://www.robofest.net and click on "result" link on each site page. You may also find official team photos and robot photos on the result page. We would like to thank all the coaches, contestants, team volunteers, team sponsors, site volunteers for their time, effort, and sponsorship. (2) Announcing Robofest 2003 National Champions We would like to announce the following Robofest 2003 National Champions. As in the Robofest Newsletter on April 16, 2003, the selection criteria was the best average completion time of all the robot missions. - Lego Robot National Champion: 64-1, Comets, Christ The King School, Windsor, Canada. They completed the robotics mission all the time. Four 100 points out of 4 runs (Flash, 2nd, Semi Final, and Final). Average time to complete was 87.68 seconds. - Advanced Robot National Champion: 72-3, Robokids, Farmington Harrison High School, Michigan. They got 100 points out of three runs (Flash, 2nd, and Final round). They were using Handy Boards with Interactive C programming language. We are planning a special award ceremony for them open to the general public at the end of May or in the beginning of June at Lawrence Tech University, Southfield, Michigan. We also plan to have winner robot demonstration on that day, if possible. The exact date, time and location will be announced through this Robofest mailing list. (3) Robofest 2003 – LTU, Videotape Request LTU Robotics lab has finished editing approximately 26 min. videotape of Robofest 2003 – Lawrence Tech event and planning to present during the National Champion Award Ceremony at LTU at the end of May or in the beginning of June. If you want a free copy, you need to first request by email to robofest@yahoo.com “and” someone must come to the award ceremony to pick it up. (4) Robofest 2004 Plan We have received some inquires from other States how they can host Robofest in their States. If you are interested in hosting Robofest in other parts of Michigan or in other States, please let us know. Your input is valuable in order to make a good plan for Robofest 2004.
